A national story, a group of Jews are in distress, two or more organizations involved in the rescue - throw in two Orthodox news blogs aligned with each of these organizations, and it creates the perfect storm.
This blog's goal is to decipher some of the biased coverages in the two leading Orthodox Jewish news blogs, Yeshiva World (YW) and Vos Iz Neias (VIN). A perfect example is today's coverage of the assistance provided to Jews stranded in a Vermont vacation spot.
Misaskim and the much older and behind-the-scenes Chesed Shel Emes often clash in their eagerness to help living and death Jews. It seems that this mission also involves some competition between them. YW have shown a constant bias to Misaskim, while VIN always prefers to cover Chesed Shel Emes (CSE). This time is no different.
VIN had a story 5:15 about CSE's airlifts to the place. A while later YW published its version of events. It generously reports a handful of organizations who are assisting, even mentioning who is providing food, but they are trying to belittle the planes, making clear that they will not rescue anybody. Also, if you wonder who provided the planes, you will have to look somewhere else. YW will leave the planes anonymous.
