Is Atheism (Kfira) Better Than Toeiva?

The NY9 results reverberated in DC, and it produced landmark results. Mayor Koch had reception with the first family, after several decades missing such an invitation. Now, less than two weeks since thousands of us sent a message to President Obama, Mayor Koch urges us to support the President in 2012, on grounds that were also valid two weeks ago – US involvement to save Israeli Embassy personnel in Cairo, and Military equipment shipments to Israel.
What an expensive dinner…
Making us for fools is one thing; painting us as atheists is a whole different thing.
According to the NYT, referring to Rick Perry, he told the president that “Jews will never vote for anyone who doesn’t believe in evolution.”
According to press reports, the Jews heeding his advice in NY9 were overwhelmingly Orthodox Jews. This is probably inaccurate, since most Orthodox voted republican after being fooled that this is the Pro-moral choice.
Thus, when he refers to Jewish voters he’s speaking in their name, he is largely seen as speaking in the name of Orthodox.
I believe it’s a terrible Chilul Hashem to describe Jews, especially us, as atheists. This is a terrible consequence of joining forces with an atheist and anti-moral politician, for political ends.
Instead of defeating Toeiva, we empowered someone to spread Kfirah.
