A special election changes the whole game, since the party leaders nominate candidates to party lines, preventing a primary, and the rest are running on third party lines. The one running on the Democratic line is a strong favorite - especially if several other credible candidates appear on the ballot - and Brooklyn Party Leader Vito Lopez last week spoke nicely about Lew Fidler's candidacy, though they had strained relationship in recent years.
Did Fidler receive a heads-up about the plea, that spurred his Hamodia ad last week?
UPDATE: Kruger already resigned.
