UPDATE: Can The Democrats Lose NY-10? And is Dov supporting a Super-Jewish District?

Ed Towns

I wildly speculated yesterday of a scenario in which NY-10, Rep Ed Towns' district, can fall out of the democratic column, if extremist Charles Baron wins the primary. If this plays out, the chances are much better that this candidate should run on the Working Family Line. (Council-woman Tish James, whose district is overlapping with parts of NY-10, was the first WFP candidate to win an election in NYS.)

Still, it's noteworthy that the Brooklyn Politics blog thinks that this district "probably contains one of the more socially conservative Democratic electorates in the state."

Super Jewish District

We speculated yesterday whom Dov will support, and assumed it’s not goanna be Felder. Stands out that Dov is against the whole idea. According to David Friedlander, of the Observer, Dov Hikind resists a super-Jewish district. “Dov must be burning mad,” said one local political operative. “The last thing Dov Hikind needs is another Orthodox Jew sitting on his head in Albany.”

It is also worth to mention that Lew Fidler is eying a run for a state-senate seat on the Democratic line for this seat. According to one report in the summer, Fidler already secured Hikind's support, though Fidler was an outspoken Greenfield supporter, and he's supporting Gay marriage. It will be interesting how Dov will distinguish between Fidler and David Weprin, whom he opposed because he was an Orthodox Jew supporting the anti-marriage act. But given that it was a play, it will be easy for him to find an excuse.

BTW, Agudah was previously reported to discuss with Skelos to support a Republican candidate for Kruger's seat, as a reward for his support for TAP for Yeshivos . Fred Kreiaman,. Mayor Bloomberg's go-to staffer in the Orthodox community was than rumored as a possible choice.  Dov was a sharp Bloomberg criticizer in the past, and probably wouldn’t like Bloomberg (and Greenfield) ally in power.

Dov was a key player in the TAP passage, and praised Skelos' help. So it's interesting how this can end up against his interests.  According to the PolitickerNY, the mere creation of a super Jewish district "would mark a clear sign that Mr. Hikind’s influence has begun to wane."
