Race to Replace Kruger Tidbits

Here are some tidbits on the race to replace Carl Kruger to represent the 27th Senate district.

Date
March 20th is rumored as the date that Gov Cuomo will choose for the special election.

Endorsements
Dov Hikind's endorsement is still up in the air (if the past is an indication, it will probably stay that way until about a week before the election). The Assemblyman is saying that he knows Fidler and also met Storobin , and hasn’t decided yet. Dov did differentiate between Lew and David Weprin, a democrat whom he dumped, saying, “Lew is not David Weprin... On many different levels… They are two very, very different people.”

Storobin tries to court Dov, telling the Jewish Press, "I met Dov Hikind for the first time when I was a child. I’ve always respected him. I think he’s a great man."

Demographics
Storobin estimated, in the JP interview, that a quarter of the district residents are Russian Jews and another quarter are observant Jews.

Issues
Marriage was at the forefront of Storobin's case to the voters, in the JP interview. Expect this to be the centerpiece of his campaign, certainly to the Jewish community.
