Liu Defends BP Matzah Bakery Visit; Greenfield Vows Veto Over-ride

NYC Comptroller John Liu, who will step ‘up or down’ from his post next year - declaring that he isn't running for re-election but might still run for mayor - was yesterday in Borough Park for his annual Matzah bakery pilgrimage. The NY Post is reporting that:
While donning a yarmulke and tossing a log into the 1,200-degree wood-burning oven, Liu said, “I can feel the heat!”
According to the Post, he had to defend the visit, saying the Matzah bakeries are important for the economy.
“Passover is a very important holiday, and I feel privileged to visit this matzoh bakery that is shipping worldwide and is contributing to the economy of this community and the City of New York,” he said.

It's interesting if his stepping down will revive Simcha Felder's Comptroller aspirations. He once told that this is the only citywide post he believe that he has a shot of winning, due to his financial reputation.

Also today, Councilman David Greenfield co-wrote an op-ed in today's Daily News with 'the' Mayoral candidate Speaker Quinn to declare and explain their decision to override the Mayor's veto on Greenfield's bill to stop Sanitation from sticking stickers on illegally parked cars. Here is the closing paragraph:

Councilman Greenfield
New Yorkers who park illegally are rightly issued fines. Those fines serve as ample deterrent from repeat offenses. Branding vehicles with stickers is a punitive practice with no measurable results. Today we’ll vote to override the mayor’s veto, and make life a little easier for drivers in all five boroughs.

And finally what we have all been waiting for: the Board of Elections just started, 10 AM, the count the absentees in the Storobin/Fidler race. Both are hopeful. Stay tuned.
