A plan proposed by KJ about 8 years ago, to tap into New York City’s aqueduct water - to supply its increasing water needs thanks to the explosive growth of the community - is about to start to materialize, according to a report in the Times Herald Record.
The $29 Millions project was proposed in 2004 as major goal for the Village leadership, but was also a lightning rod for some in the neighborhood. After years of contention and litigations with Orange County and the neighboring village, the grandiose project is finally about to get in motion.
The Village still has to receive a range of permits from the neighboring Town and the City, according to the record. The first shovels on the ground may be seen as early as May, to “bury a 24-inch-wide pipe under state and county roads from Kiryas Joel to Cornwall, a 6.5-mile stretch that takes in all of Seven Springs Road and Ridge Road and the northern half of Route 32 in Woodbury.”

Mine is one of the surrounding wells as I live just down the road. All of my neighbors are now concerned about the possibility of our wells running dry. The well they placed in Mountainville can yield 600,000 gallons of water per day. Whereas the rest of us probably do not exceed 1000 gallons per day out of our own wells.
ReplyDeleteThat has to take a toll on the available water.
Also, many of us live right on Route 32. No one has told me how this is going to impact my driveway.
I feel sorry for you, especially if you weren't notified and given and adequate chance to raise your concerns, but it is my understanding that this will well will only be use in emergency situations. I understand there may still be legitimate concerns of its impacts in these rare occasions, and hope that his will be worked out neighborly.
