The NYT Wycoff Hospital Piece

Finally got the time to read the NYT "At Ailing Brooklyn Hospital, Insider Deals and Lavish Perks," describing the culture of favoritism that smacks from corruption in the struggling Wyckoff Hospital.

Erik Dilan will not benefit from the mentioning of his wife's position at the ailing hospital - though it only for a $95,000 salary, far less than the others listed in the article, and it's a tough job to manage public relations for such a publicly scorned institution - where the management and leadership still extract healthy salaries, perks and deals. This article also mention Vito Lopez, Ed Towns and John Sampson, as politicians who helped their friends receive lucrative positions in the hospital. The story don't contain any evidence of criminality on the politician's part, and patronage jobs in hospitals depending on politicians help is probably not new, but it never sounds good when publicized, especially when patients and the hospital struggles.

In other news, the Ridgewood Bushwick Council, founded by and allied with Vito Lopez - is in talks with the state on a strict oversight plan, according to Liz Benjamin.

BTW, to understand how bad Wyckoff is, its neighbor Woodhull is described as the better hospital...
