Joseph Hayon - who was considering a rematch with Steve Cymbrowitz after winning a surprising 43 percent of the votes in 2010 despite only spending $615 on his campaign - notified me that he ruling out a run against Cymbrowitz. Hayon, who told me 3 weeks ago that he isn't sure if to oppose the Assemblyman, is explaining his decision "because Cymbrowitz went all out to earn the rabbi's support."
Mr. Cymbrowitz is still facing a likely democratic opponent, Ben Akselrod, who is expected to have Russian support and may also pick up Vito Lopez's backing, according to Politicker.
Rabbinical support in his district mainly hinges, of course, on the positions on marriage re-definition. But this shouldn’t be an issue here. Cymbrowitz voted against the bill, and Akselrod is also against it, according to Hayon, who is saying that he may still run for other state offices.
