Council Member Steve Levin is showing a sense of humor that I haven't seen early in his career. The following is a pun-laden press release he sent out today, reacting to a Spider-Man shooting during the Passover holiday, when we celebrate our redemption of the Egypt exodus, that was forced to an end by the 10 plagues. I spotted 6 puns in the press release, and they are in bold.
BROOKLYN
- Today, Council Member Stephen Levin called on the Columbia Pictures
production of “Spider-Man” to pass-over filming in Williamsburg during
the upcoming Jewish holiday.
“Filming
of the "The Amazing Spider-Man 2" would be a plague on the streets of
South Williamsburg during the sacred holiday, creating a parking struggle of
biblical proportions,” Levin said.
Columbia
Pictures, the producers of the Spider-Man film, plan to close off parking
between March 22nd and March 27th around the Marcy Avenue Armory; they have not
received the necessary permits as of yet.
Levin
said, “Spider-Man is spinning a web of problems for the community. With great
power there must also come great responsibility - Columbia Pictures should live
by the motto that led Spider-Man to use his abilities to fight crime and
respect the observance of Passover by moving up their shooting.”
Due to
restrictions on driving during the observance of Passover, residents will be
unable to move their cars during this time and will have difficulty finding
adequate parking.
“Unfortunately,
cars won’t rise on their own accord to allow room for Spider-Man and co. to
shoot their film on our city streets. While we support the film industry in New
York City, and know that Spider-Man is not the menace some people believe him
to be, we are asking Columbia Pictures to honor the spirit of the holiday and
not cause an exodus of vehicles from the Jewish neighborhood to accommodate the
production.”
BTW, in another sign that Steve is loosening up when preparing for re-election, his new website looks cool http://www.stephenlevin.com/, and the councilman is asking "if you have a couple bucks to spare..."
