Links: Post on Velazquez-Lopez Satmar Spat; NYT: Orthodox Vote a Rising Power & More

The NY Post is also reporting on the Satmar Camp spat that may effect the Velazquez-Dilan race. Vito Lopez - the force behind Dilan's campaign to unseat Velazquez - insists that he only have the kids' interest in mind, but at the same time he's ridiculing Velasquez's move to align her-self with the minority. A Velazquez spokesman is confirming that she advocated for a solution that should satisfy all parties (split-baby decision...).

The Orthodox Jewish vote is described as a rising power, by the NY Times, thanks to their independent voting tendencies, that was solidified by David Storobin's strong showing. Councilman David Greenfield is describing the Orthodox vote as "the last true swing vote in the city." It goes unmentioned that last time the vote swung away from Greenfield, a strong Fidler supporter. The Times is taking Greenfield's position that the Orthodox power in the state government was diluted by the creation of the super-Jewish district, but it will gain in next year's city-wide, especially the mayoral, races.
