NY-07; NY-10 ;SD-17; NY-18; & AD-97 Briefs

NY-07: Velazquez vs. Dilan

The InnovationPac that is running the KnockOutNydia campaign is out with a new web ad, depicting Nydia as a Robin Hood that distributes wealth from the poor to the rich. Celesta Katz has more and a Velazquez response. Gotta tell you: this group is really efficient with targeting it's meager resources. It only spent $2,700 this year, according to Katz.

The PAC is telling me that they are considering another poll. I'm very curious what it will find, and so are Ron Paul supporters.

Talking of the Paul-admiring candidate, it's interesting to look at his anti-Fed blog post and others, on a libertarian institute portal that was once criticized for its "interest in neo-Confederate themes." Lew Fidler, before catching up with the internet era, would have called it ties to confederacy, but Gatemouth - though he noticed it - is going easy on O'Connor, perhaps because he thinks that he's only a side show.

NY-10: Jeffries vs. Barron

Hakeem Jeffries and Charles Barron are scheduled to debate next Monday, at a forum co-hosted by The Fort Greene Association and the NY Times' The Local blog. It should be interesting. Jimmy McMillan would make it even more entertaining.

SD-17: Super-Jewish

Talking of also-runners, Abraham (Avrohom Shlomo) Tischler filed for the Super-Jewish district. You may remember his name from the time when he tried to get on the ballot in the Greenfield-Lazar race to become the youngest city council member. He was booted after participating in a debate, and later endorsed Lazar, who told that Tischler is having a remarkable future in politics. Tischler will be the second Greenfield-Lazar dropout and Lazar endorser to enter the current race against Greenfield's predecessor, Simcha Felder.

The growing number of Orthodox candidates (with the possibility that Felder will also fight for the republican line) might help David Storobin, by splitting the Orthodox vote that wouldn't have gone in his direction. In addition, a Felder defeat in the primary, may also build momentum against him in the general. If it stays a multi-candidate race, I expect him to give up the idea of an open election to run only on the democratic ticket.

AD-97: Anne Rabbit, KJ and Ramapo

A Federal court tossed a lawsuit by an Orthodox Ramapo council member against splitting up the Rockland County town's vote into 3 assembly district. Ramapo's Orthodox community was in one assembly district, but will now be sliced up into three. One part that includes the Hasidic village of Kaser will be bunched into AD-97, that also takes in the upstate Hasidic enclave Kiryas Joel, in Orange County.

NY-18: Hayworth, KJ

The Journal news had a sketching editorial against Congress-woman Hayworth for her binge spending on mailers after condemning her predecessor for the same practice.
