While Bob turner received the hi-profile endorsement of Rudy Giuliani, the Brooklyn Tea Party, headed by Joseph Hayon, today endorsed George Maragos for US senate, according to a press release by the campaign that I received from Colin Campbell.

The endorsement is news, but not surprising. Though Hayon was an early supporter of Turner in his Congressional race, and boasted to me that a Rabbinical letter he organized early in the campaign tipped the Orthodox vote in Turner's favor, the morality campaigners were disillusioned when Turner refused to embrace their ideology. Hayon echoed to me the sentiment that other expressed publicly, about their disappointment with Turner's reluctance to champion marriage and morality.
The endorsement statement is concentrating on morality more than anything else. Joseph Hayon is quoted that, “George Maragos is
the best candidate who will stand for traditional family values, fiscal
responsibility and religious freedom when elected to office. George is the
strongest advocate for traditional marriage and pro-life policies crucial to
most of the communities in Brooklyn.”
Mr. Maragos is focusing solely on marriage, in his reaction:
“Traditional values are the bedrock of most middle class families and faith
based communities. These values made America great, but are often forgotten by
candidates seeking office for political expediency. I am proud to stand and
advocate for traditional family values.”
Perhaps, now is the time to settle a score.
Update: Joseph Hayon is ready to support Turner & Mitt Romney (despite his earlier support for Santorum) in the general. He wrote me, "there is no payback. This is about issues. George Maragos is the only candidate that will support a Federal Constitutional Amendment for traditional marriage. Rest assured that whoever wins the primary, I will ask the rabbis to support together with Mitt Romney."
Update 2: Speaking to City & State, Hayon cited as the main reason Maragos' meeting with the group, while the other 2 haven't paid that respect to them.
