Storobin Hold Lead; Count to Finish in Days

With 75 percent of the ballots recounted, Politicker is reporting that David Storobin is holding to a 24 votes lead. Both sides contested some ballots, but Mr. Fidler holds a slight lead in the number of disputes filed. The hand count differs slightly from the machine count, but discrepancies are evenhanded between the candidates.

Given the current pace, the count should be over by tomorrow or a day later, with enough time for Mr. Storobin to make it to Albany during the current session, which ends in June 21st. Mr. Fidler may still try to delay the certification of the results in court (given the his contests are larger than Storobin's lead).

Williamsburg Update: I wrote before Yom Tov about HasidicBrooklyn's report on Williamsburg's 2008 voting registration drive that haven't lived up to it's hype, and I speculated that it may be partly due to the fact that a portion of the new registrants were party changes. HasidicBrooklyn replied: "In 2008-2009, only 316 hasidic voters changed their affiliation in Williamsburg." So it still far short of the claims by UJCare of over 5,000 voter that their drive netted, and that's beside the fact that the some of the 2,400 votes came from a voting drive of it's rival organization, UJO. Additionally, the number is equal to the number of new register ants in 2005, without any significant registration drive.

NY-07: The third (second) candidate, Dan O'Connor, was interviewed by NY1. Politicker is reporting about his admiration for Ron Paul's anti-war stances. He also concurred with Paul's critic of bailout funds that went to foreign corporations. I got chills when he descried him-self as an investigator in China working with the authorities. Yes, he helped companies investigate investments, but I'm wondering if he passed information to authorities, and if people are suffering from his action.
