Petitioning started, and from now on until election day, Simcha Felder will be closely scrutinized if he's campaigning during work hours, as the Daily News promised when he declared.
City & State, reported about a Simcha sighting, that the Comptroller's office strongly denies. Still, Simcha conceded that he petitioned during business hours on Tuesday, after Chris Bragg pulled the time stamp from a photo posted by Yossi Gestetner. He said that he took personal leave from work. I think of creating a mapping site, where people should be able to report and tag Simcha sightings. Any volunteers?
Capital NY is questioning the photos of uniformed police officers on a Simcha flyer posted by Yossi Gestetner. A similar issue was raised against Joe Lazar flyers, dubbed by the post as "photo (c)op". Lazar spokesman Gary Tilzer defended it as "standard practice."
Abraham (Avrohom Shlomo) Tischler is claiming to move full force to petition for the democratic primary against Simcha. And it is becoming a family affair. His younger brother Mitchell (Moishe), who's still in college, registered to challenge Dov Hikind.
Simcha isn't totally free from a senior challenger, either. Gatemouth had weekend rumors that Noach Dear is still trying to drum up support for a primary against Felder, by committing to caucus with the democrats. Dear, though will not have the luxury of keeping his current position during the campaign. The field will crystallize in about a month. Petitioning is ending on July 12.
Jacob Kornbluh uncovered that Simcha is a secessionist. He supported a 2008 bill to secede NY city from the state. He wouldn't have a position to run for, would he get his way.
Meanwhile, we finally have a State Senator. David Storobin was sworn in on Monday, after his 13-vote win was certified. Nachman Caller who is planning to primary him, participated when he took oath in Albany (he's visible in the first photo, way behind Skelos), as we reported beforehand. Dov Hikind didn't attended, but he contends that he haven't snubbed him.
Also, Storobin told Liz Benjamin that he's running for reelection.
We still have a lot to catch up on on other races. Sorry, it was a busy week, but we hope to keep you informed, though a bit late.

Well I didn't see Simcha, but i did run across Dan O’Connor this morning. He was seen at the Big Satmar shul on Hooper St. He received warmest wishes from the Grand Rabbi, Rabbi Aaron Teitelbaum.
ReplyDeleteDan O'Connor isn't on government payroll. Also, Sunday isn't a work day. So the issue with Simcha doesn't apply here. Still interesting that O'Connor targets the Hasidic vote.
