Aron Wieder Running to Be First Hasidic Assemblyman

Rockland County Legislator, Aron Benzion Wieder, is one of 3 democrats to be on the democratic primary ballot to oppose republican Anne Rabbit in the 48th Assembly district. The district includes KJ, where both sides opposed Rabbit in the past, and it was redrawn to include parts of Hasidic Ramapo, including Kaser village. Should Wieder be elected to Albany, he will make history as the first Hasidic Jew in the State Legislator.

BTW, Rabbit was one of the 50 members of the assembly to oppose the bill to alleviate the burden on Orthodox and other religious families with disabled children. The bill had 93 yeahs, 7 votes short to override the Governor's veto. Of the 7 members to abstain, two - Jeffries and Meng - were elected to congress; a third, Lancman, failed in his congressional bid; and a fourth is Mrs. Barron, whose husband lose the primary. All will still be in the assembly when it reconvenes in the end of the year. Most are all of these can be persuaded to support an override. I believe that with some efforts, an override is within reach.

Talking of KJ, democrats claim that a new poll they conducted that their candidate, Sean Patrick Malone, only trails republican incumbent Congresswoman Nan Hayworth with 3 points , 48/45 percent.
