Chris Olechowski picked up several hundred votes outside the Hasidic neighborhood, but he picked up over 10 times as much from Hasidic Williamsburg in Assemblyman Joe Lentol's district.
Assemblyman Lentol, who broke now with the Zalanites to back Restler, after they supported him strongly in the last primaries, should take comfort in the fact that Rabbi Niederman & co. are loyal to their friends and don't turn their backs on them when they see an opportunity to defeat them. Would he brush the other side in the wrong side and they would have won so strongly, I would have written him off by now. Actually, Gatemouth correctly points out that this election prove how committed the Zalanites are to those assisting for them and caring for them: "In the long term, the only real
message delivered here is that the Zali Satmar stick to their commitments come
hell or high hands up the skirt," he commented.
As of the last Daily News update, Olechowski 's leads with a razor thim 136 votes, with 5,820 votes, vs. 5,684 for Restler. It remains to be seen if Olechowski holds on to his lead - last time the race switched several times until Mr. Restler was declared winner by 119 votes - but the Zalanites clearly demonstrated their power and flexed their muscle once again, and this time they prove it in a smaller election where their vote is clearly the most decisive factor.
