Hayworth Way Ahead in Funds; 5 Fight to Oppose Her

Politics on the Hudson is reporting that Nan Haywarth far outraised all her opponents, according to the latest filing. Wappingers Falls Mayor Matt Alexander - who's having considerable support - only had $20,587 in campaign cash at the end of December, versus Hayworth’s $1.1 million at the end of the year.

Richard Becker, a heart specialist from Cortlandt seeking the Democratic line, had $165,282. A third Democrat, Tuxedo Park Mayor Tom Wilson, announced his candidacy only two weeks ago.

The filing doesn't include Alexander's high profile fund raising event with Reps Franks and Maloney.

Meanwhile, the Record is reporting that the number of candidates lining up to oppose her on the democratic line rose to five. The newest candidate is Anne Jacobs Moultrie, a union leader and registered nurse from the Town of Woodbury. Jacobs Moultrie, a vice president of 1199 Service Employees International Union, said on Wednesday that she plans to step down from her job on Friday to run for Congress and will formally announce her candidacy on Feb. 11.

Buchanan resident Duane Jackson, a street vendor who alerted police to a terrorist bomb in Times Square in 2010, is also considering throwing his hat in the race.

The new June primary date, and with congressional redistricting maps in the works, they will have a very short period to campaign.
