"When all the ballots are double-checked for accuracy, we will know who will be entitled to take the oath of offic," Mr. Fidler stated. A strong indication that he will accept the recount and will not seek any recourse.
Earlier today, Colin Campbell reported that the court ruled in Storobin's favor, putting the 119 challenged votes back in play, and this will likely push Storobin to the top.
Colin said that Fidler is expected to appeal the ruling, but his statement indicates otherwise. He still pin his hopes that the first hand recount since the new vote scanners are in place will change the results and prove that the machine ignored some of his votes.
And Kalman Yeger, Mr. Fidler's campaign manager for the results. A NYT piece published today on why Russians vote republicans, Mr. Yeger said that many Soviet
immigrants never lost their gratitude to Reagan for his role in the collapse of
Communism in the Soviet Union. His 1987 exhortation to Mikhail Gorbachev that he
tear down the Berlin
Wall still flutters hearts in Brighton Beach. The NYT article is stating that the Russian votes may help Jeffries in his congressional primary against radical Charles Barron.
Meanwhile, Simcha Felder reportedly raked in $200,000 in donations and in pledges during the last week. Coupled with what he already have from prior campaigns, he's now boasting a war chest of nearly half a million. Storobin's win, of course, increase the chances that he will run as a republican in the Super Jewish district, making it harder for Simcha to run in an open election, and giving him a stronger reason to prepare for a tough battle.
And a Russian Orthodox Jew, Ben Akselrod, announced against Steve Cymbrowitz, in a democratic primary for the 45th assembly district.
