Jeffery Wiesenfeld - a well known Jewish political operative in NY who also served for the Pataki administration and is occasionally making noise-news, like when he took on Charles Barron - described Sunday's Velazquez endorsement by the most powerful Jewish politicians as an attempt to "Kosherize" her. He pointed out that after decades in office, this year was the first time that Nydia attended the Met Council breakfast.
“We are talking about a Congressmember who has, throughout her career, never exhibited the most elementary trappings of support for our issues. Her inaugural appearance at Met Council after a quarter-century in office is nice, but where was she until now? And what about the JCRC Congressional breakfast ?Jose Serrano can scarcely claim more than a handful of Jews in his district since the early 1970s – but we see HIM," Jeff said.
As per Jeff, those who endorsed her did it for her "hard left" stances, and not of her support for Jewish causes: "It is her adherence to the hard left, rather than the more traditional liberalism of those who endorsed her to “kosherize” her after her malignant neglect of issues...”
Meanwhile, Capital's Reid Pillifant is reporting that though the endorsement was meant to bolster Nydia's pro-Israel credentials, there wasn't much talk of it. The only to take it on without being prompted, was Velazquez at the end of her speech.
And today, Velazquez turned to attack Erik Dilan as a Vito Lopez puppet. And Celesta Katz is reminding us about the recent camp fight between her and Vito.
